Including Sunday’s race at the Roval in Charlotte, only five NASCAR Cup races this season were scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. ET. The season-opening Daytona 500 began at 2:30 p.m. ET, and after this weekend, three more playoff races (Dover, Kansas, Phoenix) will begin at the same time.

The Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval is the fourth different track to host the third race of the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs, joining Dover (2011-17), Kansas (2006-10) and Talladega (2004-05). The track, which first hosted a NASCAR Cup race in 1960, underwent renovations to add the Roval in 2017.
