Fields was a standout talent for the Buckeyes in his two years, becoming a Heisman Trophy finalist as a sophomore in 2019 and taking his team to the College Football Playoff twice, including the 2021 College Football Playoff National Championship.

They kick their season off with a Big Ten matchup when they hit the road to face Minnesota at TCF Bank Stadium.

Minnesota returns quarterback Tanner Morgan, who has gone 18-8 as a starter. Morgan had a breakout campaign in 2019 in which he threw 30 touchdowns to only seven interceptions with 3,253 passing yards. Along with Morgan, the Golden Gophers have the 25th-most returning production among FBS teams coming into the year, according to ESPN, including Mohamed Ibrahim, whose average of 153.7 rushing yards per game was the second-most in FBS last season.
