After losing Game 2 to the Astros 5-2 Saturday, the Phillies have had a travel day to lick their wounds and prepare for a Game 3 showdown against Houston. By now, they’re familiar with the script. They win Game 1. Lose Game 2. And then head home, where they’re yet to lose in the postseason. The Phillies are currently 5-0 at Citizens Bank Park in these playoffs, having defeated the Braves in four games in the NLDS and the Padres in five in the NLCS.

The Astros, however, are a different beast. They entered the World Series 7-0 in the playoffs and have jumped out to 5-0 leads in each of their first two games against the Phillies, who were pitching dual aces Aaron Nola and Zack Wheeler. As the series grinds on, the Astros are undoubtedly hoping their pitching depth can prove to be the difference.

Game 3 will see Noah Syndergaard starting for the Phillies in a bullpen game, while Lance McCullers will be on the mound for the Astros. Rob Thomson has managed his bullpen exceptionally well to this point. He’ll have to do so again to navigate a batting order that has proven to be extremely potent thus far.
