Two of the league’s best passing offenses will face off against one another in SoFi Stadium with the Chargers hosting the Raiders for “Monday Night Football” to cap off Week 4. The Raiders and quarterback Derek Carr currently lead the league in passing yards, while Justin Herbert and the Chargers aren’t far back, with Herbert sitting in fourth in the league.
Las Vegas hasn’t just been dinking and dunking down the field. So far, only the Cardinals have more passing plays that gained more than 25 yards than the Raiders’ 11 such plays. The Chargers, on the other hand, have been more content to work incrementally up the field. They have gained 49 of their first downs this season through the air, averaging 15.2 yards gained on those first down attempts, according to Stathead. The Raiders have made 53 first downs on passes and averaged 18.2 yards per play.
Both teams have shown the ability to slow down the passing game of the opposition, too. The Chargers have allowed the seventh-fewest passing yards to opponents — 605 over three games — and are coming off a game where they held Patrick Mahomes to 260 passing yards and picked him off twice. The Raiders have allowed the 13th-fewest passing yards to opponents at 706.
