Montreal had 14 total draft picks at its disposal. Two of them were used in the first round, but that means that 12 of the final 193 picks in the draft will be made by the Canadiens. That includes the first pick in Round 2, No. 33 overall.

While Montreal may be the top team to watch on Friday, several other squads will have their first chance to make selections. Contenders like the Bruins, Hurricanes, Flames, Panthers, Avalanche, Rangers and Golden Knights all entered the 2022 NHL Draft without a first-round pick at their disposal. Most of them will get in on the action in the second round.

The NHL Draft’s second day still has some high-profile players available at the start of it, but teams will largely be tasked with finding hidden gems throughout the draft’s final 193 picks. Remember, the prospects being selected are almost exclusively teenagers, so there is a good chance that a handful of these non-first-round selections turn into quality NHL players.
