So why are we still not seeing flags on the field when this dude gets drilled in the head?

The Panthers star quarterback took yet another illegal shot Monday night against the Redskins in the second quarter. Newton escaped the pocket on a third-down play and scrambled toward the sideline. He realized there was no chance at reaching the first-down marker, so he slid to the grass to avoid a big hit.

Didn’t matter. Redskins linebacker Trent Murphy nailed him anyway. Textbook definition of a personal foul, right? Wrong. No flag.

But it gets more ridiculous! Newton was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct because he threw the football in Murphy’s direction after the play.

Well, you see Cam, it’s really about player safety. You could have seriously injured someone with that dangerous football. Oh, that hit you took to the head? Toughen up. It’s only your brain.

The penalty pushed the Panthers out of field-goal range and forced them to punt.

We might actually see this scenario in the second half.
